Joola’s Phenix is a topspinner’s dream. It has a firm topsheet combined with a medium-firm sponge that feels like it is factory tuned and it produces good “sound” when driving the ball. This made in Japan product produces a lot of speed in a very controllable linear matter and has a medium ball throw. Powerful attacks against backspin are possible as well as slow heavy loops. In counter-looping play, the Phenix is a real beast. I felt like I could finish the point at any time and from any distance from the table. The high quality topspin of this rubber makes serving easy and very effective. Unlike many “tuned” rubbers, Phenix keeps its speed and spin capabilities for a very long time. This is one of the most durable high quality rubbers on the market which makes it not only a great playing rubber but a great buy as well. While the Phenix rubber is definitely a rubber for the strong attacker, it has more “gears” and is easier to control than other power rubbers on the market.
